Scot, Not Scott

Owing to my Scottish heritage, my first name has only one t.

I am named after my mother’s paternal grandfather, William Laird, who was called “Scotty” by his friends. He was born near Edinburgh, Scotland, then moved to Canada, and finally settled in Michigan.

His wife, my great-grandmother Magdalena, made the best oatmeal cookies when I was a child.

Anyhow, I wanted you to know the proper spelling of my name and why it is so.
